Emissions

Carbon dioxide (CO2)

We make every effort to minimize carbon dioxide emissions, acting in this way in line with the pursuit of the European Union’s climate objectives and social expectations.

When it started the non-financial reporting process for 2019, we extended the list of reported ratios, including those pertaining to CO2 emissions, in order to estimate which companies/organizational units will be able to present appropriate data without making changes in the management system and in procedures. When this report was published, management decisions were made to extend the scope of reporting on CO2 emissions in the next reporting period, including decisions on the schedule of implementing full emission reporting in the ENEA Group and in its supply chain (Scope 1, Scope 2, Scope 3).

More information on greenhouse gas emissions and changes to them compared to 2018 is provided on pages 98-99 of the Management Board Report on the Activity of ENEA S.A. and ENEA Group in 2019.

Our activities for limiting greenhouse gas emissions are described in the Environmentally-friendly Investments section.

Sulfur dioxide, dust and nitrogen oxides

Our ambition is to lower as much as possible emissions of pollutants generated during production processes, which is served by further infrastructural investments performed. Due to them, continued progress is possible with limiting emissions of sulfur dioxide, dust and nitrogen oxides.

Pursuant to the IED Directive, as of 1 January 2016, more stringent limits for emissions of pollutants will be in force, to which, among others, energy producers using coal technologies will have to adjust. To meet the problems of economic operators, the possibility of temporary mitigation of the directive’s requirements has been provided for, which means an extra time for adjusting our production units to the new standards. The scope of the above mitigations is described in the Transitional National Plan. In accordance with this plan, we are adjusting our activity to the emission limits for sulfur dioxide, dust and nitrogen oxides, which are tightened every year but settlement of the limits is allowed for the whole Group cumulatively. We can satisfy completely the requirements which came into force from 1 January 2016 until 30 June 2020.
